Accessibility
Accessibility matters to this work, and to this website. Everyone should be able to read, navigate and use the site, which aims to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
What's been done
- Clear, semantic structure with proper headings, landmarks and a "skip to content" link.
- Descriptive alternative text for every image, so screen-reader users get the same context.
- Strong colour contrast in both light and dark modes (tested to AA, and AAA for body text).
- Full keyboard operation with a visible focus outline; nothing requires a mouse.
- Works without JavaScript, resizes and zooms cleanly, and reflows on small screens.
- Respects your system preferences — light/dark appearance and reduced-motion settings.
- No tracking, no pop-ups, no cookie banners getting in the way.
Known limitations
- The documentary video embedded in the Resources section may not have captions in every player; if you'd like a captioned version or a transcript, please get in touch and one can be provided.
- The downloadable chapter PDF may not be fully tagged for screen readers; an accessible alternative can be provided on request.
